The profile is hosted by Google, so it is the one part of local search that does not wait on your website earning authority first. That is why the map pack moves in weeks and the organic side does not, and why the first month of this work is the heaviest.
Local SEO services forbusinesses that needthe phone to ring.
Local SEO gets your business into the map pack, the three-result block that sits above everything else on a local search. For most service businesses it produces more calls than the organic listings underneath.
What local SEO is,in plain terms.
Search “roofing contractor near me” and Google shows you two things.
At the top, three businesses with a map, star ratings and a call button. That is the map pack. Google names three factors behind it: relevance, how well your profile matches what someone searched; distance, how far you are from the searcher; and prominence, how well known your business is, which Google says is based partly on how many websites link to you and how many reviews you have. Google also states there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
Below that, the regular blue links, ranked on your website.
Local SEO works the first one. Regular SEO works the second. A business can own the map pack and be nowhere in organic, or the reverse, and each has a different fix. Most of the businesses paying for “SEO” and wondering why nothing changed are buying organic work while their map pack problem goes untouched.
Who this is for.
Businesses where the customer is nearby and the decision is fast. Trades and home services. Clinics. Restaurants. Salons. Auto shops. Anyone with a service area rather than a shipping address.
If your customers find you, call you, and get service within a week, local SEO is probably the highest-return marketing you can buy.
If your sales cycle runs six months and your buyers are in three provinces, read the Winnipeg SEO page or look at paid advertising instead.
What the work involves.
Google Business Profile optimization
The profile is the product here. Primary category, secondary categories, service list, service area, hours including holiday hours, attributes, photos on a schedule, and Google Posts. Most profiles I audit have one category set, four photos from 2019, and no services listed. Fixing that alone moves businesses several positions.
Review generation, run as a system
Review count, velocity and recency all matter, and so does whether you reply. A business earning three reviews a month steadily outperforms one that got thirty in a burst two years ago. I set up the request flow so it fires after every job without anyone having to remember, and I write the reply templates.
Citations and NAP consistency
Your name, address and phone number have to match across every directory that lists you. Conflicting phone numbers on old listings are one of the most common and most invisible causes of a profile that will not rank. Boring, mechanical work, and it matters.
Location and service pages
One page per service per location, with genuinely different content on each. A template with the city name swapped is a doorway page, which Google has policed since its March 2015 doorway update and still lists in its spam policies.
Local links and mentions
Chamber of commerce, local suppliers, community sponsorships, regional press. Few in number, outsized in effect, because your national competitors cannot get them.
Tracking that separates map from organic
Call tracking and GA4 configured so you can see which calls came from the map pack, which came from organic, and which came from ads. Without that split you cannot tell which half of the budget is working.
What you are shopping in.
The businesses ranking for “local seo services” nationally are mostly Toronto and Vancouver agencies with account managers and a template. The work itself is not complicated. What varies is whether anyone does it every month, or whether you get a report saying it was done.
I run a small roster, so I do the profile updates myself. Ask me what changed last Tuesday and you get an answer. That is the entire argument for hiring one person in Winnipeg over a firm with a client list in the hundreds, and it is the only one worth making.
How this gets priced
After I have looked at the work. What decides the number: how many locations you run, how many services you want to own, how bad the citation situation turns out to be, and whether you want the review system run for you or built and handed over.
One thing worth knowing up front. The first month is heavier than the ones after it, because the profile rebuild, the citation clean-up and the tracking setup are all front-loaded. I say that before you start rather than when the first invoice lands.
You get the figure in writing, with what it covers and what it excludes named, before anything begins.
