Booked jobs split by service type, because a tune-up and a full replacement do not belong in the same conversion column. Maintenance plan signups as their own metric. Cost per lead by month, so next year's budget follows this year's demand curve rather than last year's guess.
SEO for HVAC companies, built around the seasonyou are heading into.
HVAC marketing has a problem no other trade has this badly. Your demand arrives in two spikes and disappears in between.
Get ahead ofthe spike, and buildsomething forthe gap.
November hits and the phone does not stop. July hits and every air conditioner in the city fails at once. March and September, almost nothing.
Most HVAC companies respond by spending flat all year, which overspends in the dead months and runs out exactly when demand peaks.
The whole job is getting ahead of the spike and building something that produces work between them.
Rank before the season.
This is the piece that costs HVAC companies the most.
SEO takes three to six months. Start working on furnace rankings in October and you will rank in February, when demand collapses. Furnace content needs to be built in June. Air conditioning content in January.
Google also has memory. A page that ranked well last November returns faster this November than a page published fresh. The second year of doing this properly is dramatically better than the first, which is the argument for starting in a quiet month.
Budget shaped like your demand
Paid advertising is the opposite. It turns on instantly, so it should follow the season.
Heavy in October through January and June through August. Light in the shoulder months, and pointed at maintenance and tune-ups rather than emergency replacement, because that is what people buy in April.
A flat monthly ad budget across an HVAC year is money set on fire twice. How the ad side gets run.
When to build what.
The calendar is the strategy. Everything above is a consequence of these four rows.
| Season | Build the content | Ad budget | What you are selling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace season, Oct to Jan | Built in June | Heavy | Repair, replacement, no-heat emergencies |
| Spring shoulder, Feb to May | Built in Nov | Light | Tune-ups, maintenance plans, air quality |
| Cooling season, Jun to Aug | Built in January | Heavy | Air conditioning repair and replacement |
| Fall shoulder, Sep | Built in April | Light | Pre-season inspections, plan renewals |
The shoulder months are the real opportunity.
Every HVAC company competes for the November furnace call. Almost none of them build the business that fills March.
Maintenance plans
A customer on an annual plan covering two tune-ups is worth more over five years than a single emergency replacement, and they call you first when the unit finally dies. The most underbuilt thing in the industry.
Service reminders on a schedule
The furnace you serviced last October gets a message this September, automatically. How that gets built. This is the mechanism the HVAC software companies bid hardest to sell you, and you can have it without buying enterprise software.
Indoor air quality and add-ons
Humidifiers, filtration, thermostats. Sold to people who already trust you, in the months when nothing is breaking.
Cost pages
“How much does a new furnace cost in Winnipeg” gets searched constantly and answered honestly by almost nobody. Publish the range and what moves it.
Repair against replace
The question every customer with a fifteen-year-old unit is asking. Answering it fairly, including the cases where repair wins, is what makes the recommendation credible when you say replace.
Emergency pages, and rebate pages
“No heat” and “furnace not working” searches peak on the coldest night of the year. Have the page, have the phone answered, have the text-back running. Rebate programs change often, and a page kept current on what is available gets bookmarked, shared and cited.
